Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather Allegany, NY George H. Pierce, II of Allegany passed away peacefully Wednesday evening (August 26, 2015) at the Absolut Care of Salamanca after a long illness. Born October 12, 1932 in Olean he was the son of Harlow and Veronica Ramsey Pierce. He was also the grandson of the late Senator George (Caroline) Pierce. On November 17, 1956 he married Anne Marie Braunschweiger of Wellsville who survives. Mr. Pierce was a 1950 graduate of Allegany High School where he was a star player for the basketball and baseball teams. He then graduated from St. Bonaventure University and was a pitcher for the Bona baseball team. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany He served with the US Army from 1956 to 1958 and then enjoyed a long career as a math teacher at Ellicottville Central School. In his earlier years of teaching he coached basketball and baseball. After retiring from teaching he was active in the Literacy Volunteer Program. He was a sports enthusiast who loved Michigan Football, the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Bonaventure basketball. He was an avid reader and a student of history and politics. He enjoyed a variety of music, movies and theater, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family. His wonderful sense of humor brightened many days. In addition to his wife Anne Marie, he is survived by two sons Harlow "Bill" Pierce of Allegany and Robert "Bob" Pierce of Olean; a daughter Cara (Vince) Fratercangelo of Cordova, TN and his beloved granddaughter Alexa Fratercangelo, also of Cordova, TN. A private graveside service will be held at the Allegany Cemetery on Monday (August 31, 2015). Memorials may be made to the Allegany Public Library, Olean Public Library or to the memorial fund of St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany.
