BRANDON, Fla. - Samuel J. DaPolito, 93, of Brandon, passed away Saturday (Oct. 3, 2015). Born on June 18, 1922, in Olean, N.Y., he was a son of Francesco "Frank" and Louisa Colonna DaPolito after his parents immigrated to the United States from Baino, Italy, in 1909. Sam graduated from Olean High School on June 25, 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from September 1942 to January 1946 as an airplane and engine mechanic. He was married to his first wife, M. Cecelia Glynn Olson, in May 1948. Later in life, he met Marion Kwiatkowski, who became his significant other for 40 years. He co-owned DaPolito Dry Cleaners with his brother, Louie. He also worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and, after many years, retired from the company. He served as commander-in-chief for the Olean VFW. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Jadlowski; a son, Richard DaPolito; a granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Jadlowski; and a great-granddaughter, Theah Bella Kraut. Sam was the youngest of seven children, the others being John, Stephen, Joseph, Louis, Frances and Mary, who all predeceased him. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday (Oct. 9, 2015) at Casey Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 Route 417, Olean. Interment will follow at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany, N.Y.
